Classroom Workshops

The techniques used in my writing workshops grew from my Master's degree research and
hands on experience in one special Douglas County school, where student CSAP
writing scores improved 11% the following year.
During that experience, I learned some of the things elementary school students can
do. For instance,
 | Second grade students need editing and rewriting techniques to turn their
writing projects into masterpieces. Once started they can become
enthusiastic champion editors. |
 | Third and fourth graders are imaginative and creative. A little bit of
prompting sends them off with a flurry of ideas for stories. |
 | Fifth and Sixth graders are more socially driven and love to create
characters, place them within a challenging situation, and listen to them
work things out with humor. |
Classroom Workshops
There are many options for setting up classroom workshops. Here are some
suggestions, but they are by no means the only options.
 | If your school is in the Denver area, you can schedule a twice weekly session over a period of several weeks. One group of students
can take a writing project from start to finish. |
 | If you are more than an hour's drive from Denver, help me find overnight
accommodations, so the whole school can gain playwriting experience as I visit three rooms per day over a period of a week.
Special workshops for teachers can be arranged after school. I'll devote
all my attention to helping your school improve writing scores. |
 | If your time and budget are limited, one half-day session in one classroom
allows me to give a small group of students loads of personal writing
inspiration and attention. |
Don't forget the Writing Contest.
Students can earn their class a discount on one of these workshops.
If that doesn't work, you can copy and paste my email address
